Introducing Pathfinder Society

Hey (future) Pathfinders,

Event Sign Up: Here
Schedule: Saturdays, 1300-1530, 2013.09.14 - 2013.10.19

Previously, we have been enjoying Dungeons and Dragons's Encounters series by Wizards of the Coast as our weekly RPG at Paladin Tech and Game. However, recent changes by WotC have led to us no longer using their materials. So for now we are going to forge ahead with Paizo's Pathfinder Society using their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Pathfinder Society, unlike Encounters, is all about building up your character through multiple adventures. You'll finally have a chance to get attached to your character and can watch them grow from a new member of one of the various society factions to a hero that crosses the planes themselves looking for new challenges. To accommodate this, take a trip over to Paizo and create an account. Then start your career as a Pathfinder over on the Pathfinder Society page. You are welcome to use a pregenerated character, or create your own (be sure to follow the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play). After each scenario, the GM will record your involvement on a Chronicle sheet that will allow you to take your character to any Pathfinder Society game and be sure that all players are honest. With each scenario completed, your character will grow in experience and prestige within your faction as you gain ancient artifacts, wealth, and special boons.

To those who have played DnD3.5, you'll find a lot of similarities and can pick up Pathfinder almost instantly. To our DnD4 players, there's a bit of shakeup as this system is far more rewarding to role playing and less focused on combat. We'll walk players through how to play the game, but if you can roll a d20 and make a decision you should be fine.

All that is needed to play is a good attitude, a standard set of gaming dice, a figure or object for representation on a map, and a copy of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook . Paladin will have a special sale on Core Rulebooks to celebrate our starting Pathfinder Society, exact details will be posted over the next week while we finish preparations on our end. We have a lot more products to expand your horizons as players, though those four things are truly all we expect you to bring.

There is one last caveat that we want to inform you of, due to the nature of Paizo's Scenarios we are instituting a nominal table fee of $1 per person. This will go towards covering the price of the scenarios as well as handouts and props for players. It would have been higher had we stuck with Encounters, and we feel that the way Pathfinder Society plays will be a welcome change over some weaknesses in Encounters expressed by players.
