Pathfinder - We Be Goblins

Howdy Pathfinders,

Event Sign Up: Here
Schedule: Saturdays, 1300-1530, 2013.11.23 and 2013.11.30

With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, we are having a special event for Pathfinder in the store: We Be Goblins and We Be Goblins, Too. Instead of playing as one of the good guys, let's try out one of the evil little goblins of Golarion. These two days of special events will earn surviving players Chronicle sheets they can apply to any of their own characters. Since PFS doesn't have rules for Goblin characters, you'll need to pick one from the provided pregens (which you can preview here and here). And to really kick off the fun, we will have Goblin Miniatures for sale. So take a chance and pick one up, you might even get one of the pregens you'll play as.

All that is needed to play is a good attitude, a standard set of gaming dice, a figure or object for representation on a map, and a copy of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook. We also carry many more products to expand your horizons as players, though those four things are truly all we expect you to bring.

There is one last caveat that we want to inform you of, due to the nature of Paizo's Scenarios we are instituting a nominal table fee of $1 per person. This will go towards covering the price of the scenarios as well as handouts and props for players.

Pathfinder Society - Year of the Demon

Howdy Pathfinders,

Event Sign Up: Here
Schedule: Saturdays, 1300-1530

With the successful run of Pathfinder Society's Intro Series, we have moved full on into Season 05, also known as Year of the Demon.

The Pathfinder Society is sending its members out to the Worldwound and hopefully we can end the threat of demon hordes once and for all. To do that, we'll need all the Pathfinders we can muster. Do you think you have it in you to face these Abyssal fiends? Head on over and check out the letters from your individual Faction heads.

For those new to Pathfinder Society, PFS is all about building up your character through multiple adventures. To accommodate this, take a trip over to Paizo and create an account. Then start your career as a Pathfinder over on the Pathfinder Society page. You are welcome to use a pregenerated character, or create your own (be sure to follow the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play). After each scenario, the GM will record your involvement on a Chronicle sheet that will allow you to take your character to any Pathfinder Society game and be sure that all players are honest. With each scenario completed, your character will grow in experience and prestige within your faction as you gain ancient artifacts, wealth, and special boons.

All that is needed to play is a good attitude, a standard set of gaming dice, a figure or object for representation on a map, and a copy of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook. Pathfinder Sale - Core Rulebooks

Hey Pathfinders,

As promised, we are offering a sale on Pathfinder Core Rulebooks. We are taking an extra 10% off our already discounted price. That should bring it down to around $40.

The sale will last Friday and Saturday (2013.09.13-2013.09.14). Feel free to pick up a Core Rulebook and read it in advance, or wait until after getting a taste of Pathfinder on Saturday. Don't worry about us running out of books, as we will honor the sale on pre-orders as well. If you want to take advantage of this deal, we'll do our best to make sure that you can.

So swing on by and grab your Pathfinder Core Rulebook, it covers everything you need to know to play the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Star Trek Attack Wing

Federation * Klingon * Romulan * Cardassian
Which side will you be on?

Wiz Kids ST Attack Wing plays much like the similar Star Wars X-Wing game from Fantasy Flight (and, in fact, the game system is licensed from them). Instead of small craft, Star Trek uses the capital ships from each space navy that have more sweeping flight arcs. Each ship can be crewed by famous ST personalities. On release, each faction gets 2-3 ships, for a total of 11 including the 3 in the starter box, with more are on the way.

Introducing Pathfinder Society

Hey (future) Pathfinders,

Event Sign Up: Here
Schedule: Saturdays, 1300-1530, 2013.09.14 - 2013.10.19

Previously, we have been enjoying Dungeons and Dragons's Encounters series by Wizards of the Coast as our weekly RPG at Paladin Tech and Game. However, recent changes by WotC have led to us no longer using their materials. So for now we are going to forge ahead with Paizo's Pathfinder Society using their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Pathfinder Society, unlike Encounters, is all about building up your character through multiple adventures. You'll finally have a chance to get attached to your character and can watch them grow from a new member of one of the various society factions to a hero that crosses the planes themselves looking for new challenges.

To those who have played DnD3.5, you'll find a lot of similarities and can pick up Pathfinder almost instantly. To our DnD4 players, there's a bit of shakeup as this system is far more rewarding to role playing and less focused on combat. We'll walk players through how to play the game, but if you can roll a d20 and make a decision you should be fine.

All that is needed to play is a good attitude, a standard set of gaming dice, a figure or object for representation on a map, and a copy of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook . Paladin will have a special sale on Core Rulebooks to celebrate our starting Pathfinder Society, exact details will be posted over the next week while we finish preparations on our end. We have a lot more products to expand your horizons as players, though those four things are truly all we expect you to bring.

There is one last caveat that we want to inform you of, due to the nature of Paizo's Scenarios we are instituting a nominal table fee of $1 per person. This will go towards covering the price of the scenarios as well as handouts and props for players. It would have been higher had we stuck with Encounters, and we feel that the way Pathfinder Society plays will be a welcome change over some weaknesses in Encounters expressed by players.

DnD Encounters - Search for the Diamond Staff - Week 0

Greetings Dungeoneers,

Following the events of last week's Game Day (Vault of the Dracolich), we are once again searching for the Diamond Staff. Stolen by orcs, it’s up to a group of heroes to stop them. Why orcs should want the staff is anyone’s guess, and the quest to find the truth might well lead the adventurers across the Dalelands and into the depths of the lost library-vaults of Uvaeren.
For this season, we're continuing with 4th edition while we wait for more work to be done on 5th edition. You'll need a 4th-level character to start this season. Don't forget that you get a three magical items (one of 5th, 4th, and 3rd levels) as well as enough gold to purchase a 4th level item which you can spend in any way you'd like. Players from last week also get to keep anything they found in the Vault.
And of course, all books and magazines for 4th edition are fair game for character creation.
If you are lazy, you can just use one of the pre-gens from last week (Wizards didn't make any for this season), just note that you'll be a bit underpowered.
Additionally, you should download and print a copy of a provided map of the Dalelands.
Sign-up for the event HERE. We'll be starting Sunday (2013.06.23) at 1300 and hope to see you there.

DnD Encounters - Storm over Neverwinter - Week 0

Greetings Dungeoneers,

For this season, we've decided to go back to 4th edition while we wait for more work to be done on 5th edition. You'll need a 3rd-level character to start this season, and try to take advantage of the themes and backgrounds provided in the Neverwinter Campaign book for 4th edition. And of course, all books and magazines for 4th edition are fair game for character creation.
For those in a hurry, Wizards has provided some nicely pre-generated characters HERE.
Sign-up for the event HERE. We'll be starting Sunday (2013.04.14) at 1300 and hope to see you there.

DnD Weekly Adventure

Greetings Dungeoneers,

Today our gaming group tried something new, no premade adventure, just the basic idea of an orc chef wanting rare ingredients. Pretty much every part of this adventure was made up on the spot, with collaborative feedback from the players. We also made characters that were deliberately broken or nonsensical.

The Characters:
  • Justin Nichols as a Pixie Paladin, named Super Ego that wanted everyone to do good.
  • +Josh W as a Pixie Blackguard, named Id, (and twin brother to Super Ego) that wanted everyone to do evil deeds.
  • +Sean Hale as a Changeling Hybrid Assassin (Dragon Magazine) / Vampire, also a manifestation of a sun god (leading to humorous events of setting on fire when using sun god powers).
  • +Unika Cole as a Warforged Monk, built like a Gundam.
  • David as a Satyr Bard with erectile dysfunction leading to him only singing sad songs.
  • +Adam Nelson as and a Dragonborn Warlord, our straight-man for the group, constantly berated by the pixies.

DnD Encounters - Against the Cult of Chaos - Week 1

Greetings Dungeoneers,

This season had our players introduced to DnDNext mechanics, which seem to be going over well. The extra dice makes the game more random and the simplified check system based on ability scores makes for simpler game play. Combat also seems faster, so that's a nice improvement. From a DM point of view, the sandbox style of play for the town of Hommel Lane really allows me to keep the game flowing with what the players want to do.

     DnDNext Playtest
     Encounters Sign-Up

Adventurers:
  • +Unika Cole as UnikaChar the Halfling Rogue
  • +Sean Hale as Bob the Human Cleric
  • Justin Nichols as Dorrin the Dwarf Fighter
  • +Josh W as Sigfried the Human Fighter
  • Adam Nelson as Rodrik the Human Fighter
  • Adam Thompson as Richard the Elf Wizard
TL;DR:
Our adventurers escort a paladin to a Hommel Lane, but are delayed when the paladin is possessed. Upon making it to town, half the party parties while the other half take the captured and possessed paladin to a temple to be purified. At the temple, they learn of a missing person last seen at nearby inn, while the others at the tavern learn of another missing person near some local caves. Meeting at the inn, our parties continue to follow up on some leads.

And now for a full recap of this week's adventure The Village of Hommel Lane.

DnD Encounters - Against the Cult of Chaos - Week 0

Greetings Dungeoneers,

This season has some throwbacks to some older adventures: The Keep on the Borderlands, Village of Hommlet, and Against the Cult of the Reptile God, and a little bit of the Rod of Seven Parts. As such, some elements may be similar to classic players of DnD. For the newer players, it's important to know that this adventure is far more open-ended in how you explore things. No more tracks on where to go, it's up to you to decide what you do.
The last important thing to know is that we will be playing with the beta rules for DnDNext. The rules for DnDNext are similar enough to previous editions of DnD that no one should have too much trouble picking it up. It's less cookie-cutter than 4th, and more balanced than 3.5.
Sign-up for the event HERE. We'll be starting Sunday (2013.02.10) at 1300.

DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 7

Greetings Dungeoneers,

We will finish this season of Encounters on Sunday, and finally see if all of our trials have made us strong enough to stop the Darkening. It will have the most difficult fight of the season, and not everyone is expected to survive so we need as many people as possible for the final act.

I'm trying a couple new things with this edition and hopefully they will make things easier to follow. Namely I am adding a cast section and a summary.

Adventurers:
  • +Unika Cole as Khia-le the Monk/Halfling
  • +Sean Hale as Rock the Psion/Shardmind
  • NewGuy as a Cleric/Deva [he never filled out the sign up sheet]
TL;DR:
Our adventurers saved the Blingdenstone harbor from some ice demons, talked with a Dragon Turtle, and helped a bladesmith finish his greatest work. They also learned where the source of the Darkening resides.

And now for a full recap of this week's adventure Shores of the Darklake.

DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 6

Greetings Dungeoneers,

We spoke a bit more about what characters players would prefer for the custom time travel adventure, and I revealed that the characters would be around level 15-16, putting us on to the Paragon Tier. And I also found out that the next season of Encounters would start on 2013.02.10 for us.

For the first time in a while, we didn't have any new adventurers join us. This started the adventure with a bit of a problem as we didn't have many characters capable of setting trolls on fire, but we worked our way through the session without too many problems.

This week had our characters helping to fortify the town of Nesmé in preparation for a large troll army. A lot of work was spent dealing with NPCs and rebuilding damaged defenses.

And now for a recap of this week's adventure Trolls of the Evermoors.

DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 5

Greetings Dungeoneers,

Continuing our trend to make up for lost time, we did a double session (especially since the second one was rather short). I revealed a little bit more about the time-travel adventure and we'll be hunting down a cleric of a time god that has decided to muck up the timeline. Expect a lot of four-dimensional puzzles.

We met four new adventurers this week:
  • Sean, a Dwarf Cleric using the Devoted build which finally gave our party a dedicated healer and some much needed radiant damage as we moved closer to ending Lolth's Darkening.
  • Logan (Sean's son), made a Human Fighter on the Great Weapon build and he gave some of the most damaging attacks we saw in these sessions.
  • Unika made a Halfling Monk using the Stone fist build. Her character darted in and out of combat, dazing many foes with her quick hands and feet.
  • SeanPrime made a Shardmind Psion using some custom options from Psionic Powers and showed our party just how damaging a Psion can be by using telepathy and telekinesis to deadly effect.
And now for a recap of this week's adventure where we run both Descent into the Depths and Spirits of the Fell Pass:

DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 4

Greetings Dungeoneers,

This was a make up session on Friday (2012.12.28), as we all got back together from the various Yuletide events we scattered for. We met three new players Shane (Shifter Druid named Shifty Pickles), Ben (Dwarf Paladin/Fighter?) and Alex (Eladrin Wizard) who helped fill in for some missing players.

We discussed an adventure that I am making to fill in the gap between Encounter seasons and it was revealed to involve time-travel mechanics that I'm working on. More information about this will be revealed in the coming weeks.

And now for a recap of this week's adventure, the Siege of Mithral Hall:
