DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 3

Greetings Dungeoneers,

Like last week, we had three new players (Justin, Myron, and Jeremy) join the adventuring party. Justin rolled a Dwarf Artificer, Myron an Elf Ranger, and Jeremy a[nother] Dragonborn Warlord.

This week, we'll be continuing our adventure on Friday (2012.12.14) at the regular time of 1300-1500, with the following week moved to TBA date and time, and returning to the regular schedule after that.

And now for a recap of this week's adventure:

DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 2

Greetings Dungeoneers,

This week we had three new players (Justin, Shawn, and Josh) [don't forget to sign-up on the calendar so I can get you updates] join in and complete the first session of War of Everlasting Darkness. Justin rolled a Dragonborn Sorceror, Shawn a Human Fighter, and Josh a Tiefling Warlock. Their might combined to see their way through quite an adventure.

We are moving the adventuring time to Sundays (1300-1500) from now on to better fit the schedules of the players and the store. And we'll be playing straight through until the start up of the next season, Against the Cult of Chaos. For which I'll have some documentation on the new character creation and rules used in DnDNext for us all to play with.

And now for a recap of this week's adventure:

DnD Encounters - War of Everlasting Darkness - Week 1

Greetings Dungeoneers,

Our WPN representative, Doug, pulled through and we have received a kit for Encounters. We'll be starting the events on Saturday (2012.11.17) and might have to double up on the adventures in order to catch up. I'll DM all of the sessions so that we have an uninterrupted flow this season. Wizards also sent us a couple nifty gifts to hand out to committed players (so keep that in mind).

     Sign-up for the event HERE.

An interesting aspect of this season is the use of D&DNext (DnD5E) rules. These rules are a mix of 3.5 and 4th editions, in an attempt to balance the "three pillars" of DnD (exploration, interaction, and combat). This is very important, as each session won't be about a singular aspect (normally combat), but rather the adventure will include each pillar in equal amounts. And another improvement is that the story is far less linear, allowing us to branch out and for me to say "Yes" to more suggestions from players. I know that we were bogged down with the combat and linearity last season, and D&DNext is all about fixing that. Story is becoming the driving force of Dungeons and Dragons, as it was in previous editions.

DnD Encounters - Council of Spiders - Session 8

Greetings dungeoners,
In light of recent no-shows, a blight has fallen on the lands of Menzoberranzan. Our players had contracted this plague and brought it home to their loved ones. After two grueling weeks, our team and their loved ones have succumbed to a most painful and dishonorable death.
Pay attention to the blog as we will post news about the next season of DnD Encounters as soon as we have any.

Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Demo

The new Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures game is cool, and very fun. It captures the ballet of dogfighting fighters very well, with a unique blend of movement templates and pilot special abilities.

X-Wing can be used as a quick small-scale duel, or a large 20+ fighter epic battle (that will take a few hours to play). It can be also be played on any table-top surface, and is very flexible in its army construction.

We will be demoing this game to people Saturday, October 27 between 5 and 7.

Come by and check it out!

DnD Encounters - Council of Spiders Week 6

Greetings Dungeoners,

We skip a session two weeks ago, so nothing important happened then.

Last week, Drishaun [Amanda] convinced the pick-up-group to talk their elders into joining forces and striking the surface dwellers. When and how preparations for this attack will unfold is yet to be seen, but what is known is that the wizards and priestesses have joined forces for this attack; a union which can only strengthen Lolth's power.

DnD Encounters Update

Hey fellow dungeon crawlers,

With the large Magic event in the store on Saturday, we won't have space to play and I am postponing Encounters for a week. That leaves us with some options:

  • Skip this session and I'll cover what happened in the story when we meet the following week.
  • Play two sessions next week.
  • Fall behind a week.
Let me know what players are wanting. And send me an email with your contact information and character stats, as I think that is a better way to alert cancellations.

As for last week's recap: we found Hothgar captive under a mysterious assassin. Half the team cowardly fled the fight once a poison cloud broke free, and the other half eventually died while outnumbered. So, a perfectly legitimate strategy for a team of drows.

DnD Encounters - Council of Spiders Week 4

Greetings all!

On the third week, our party was split due to a cave in and only half the party was able to catch up to the traitorous Drow (isn't that a redundant statement?), and with some effort managed to subdue her.

Last week, our party moved on with a new quest from the mysterious heads of their households. Having learned the whereabouts of the missing head of House Xorlarrin, our team struck offensively at this hidden household of mages. Belgos (spelling?) managed to put most of the mages to sleep, and while everyone else fought them valiantly Callie's acrobatic display with the tapestries impressively ended the fight.

This upcoming Saturday will have Taylor temporarily taking over for me as DM while I try out a character. I'll be playing a Drow Bard named Brezn'r who gave up her training as a priestess after an incident cost her dearly. More on her character as it develops, but be warned; she is devious - even for a Drow.

DnD Encounters - Council of Spiders Week 2

Hey everyone!

We are now taking part in Wizard's DnD Encounters. Actually, we've been during it for the past two weeks. That's fine, as players are welcomed to drop in and out over the next six weeks.

For those curious about Dungeons and Dragons, this is the perfect chance to try it out. Encounters is a weekly session lasting between one and two hours where we follow along with an official adventure from Wizards. The current season is "Council of Spiders" where players can make Drow (or select others) and adventure to see how the future of the Drow society is impacted by Lolth's decision to take over Mystra's Weave.

Sessions run on Saturdays from 1300 to 1500 at Paladin.
We are running 4th edition rules, though with some house rules to make it more enjoyable.

And for a recap, the adventurers have been sent to claim an ancient altar in the name of Lloth, only to be attacked by creatures that destroyed the previous party sent by the Drow. In the second week, the players survived an ambush of Svirfneblin (stone gnomes) and are closing in on the altar's location.

New Website

Welcome to the new website!

As you can see, we've gone with a blog. So you'll be able to see updates to the store such as upcoming events, what happened at past events, interesting inventory that's come in to the stores. All sorts of helpful knowledge can be shared with you.

As for the old forums, we are working on saving the data from those and adding them to the new one.

Any questions or concerns, you know how to reach us (it's on the sidebar to the right for convenience).
